Beginning to See a New Light
New Swipe is in order. After seeing what inspires my fellow students I realized that maybe I have a lot in common with the Pre-Raphaelites. I've always been a huge admirer of William Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement, for architecture and interiors. Anyways, I realized my Swipe was in essence focused on pattern, decorations and nature. Like the designs of the arts and crafts movement or tiffany lamps or art nouveau stained glass, its still decorative motifs inspired by nature. It feels good to look at other works of historical significance to see how they handled the situation.
So I'm thinking of looking at 19th century art, Pre-Raphaelite, Art Nouveau, and also picking up the angst and fear of rationality from Goya prints and Blake/England up to the early 1900s to match the darker mood of my text. Potentially going to try and get around the no illustration rule by studying some Islamic art. The first few google images are conveniently awesome, so I posted them below.. and above. GET SOME(ideas)
